Coming off two strong wins last week, the ladies headed into their first league game on Thursday, 1/15 ready to continue their success against the Northgate Broncos. Our Falcons held the score to a safe 0-0 for the majority of the first half, keeping the game locked in a back-and-forth possession battle. Unfortunately, the Broncos managed to snatch a lead after capitalizing on a corner kick that left the ball in the back of the net. College Park held them to one goal for the remainder of the half, but another corner kick header with seconds to go gave the Broncos a 2-0 lead going into the second half.
Hoping to get back in the game, the Falcons started the half with great energy. Midfielders Keira Laws (junior) and Cate Glasgow (senior) were met with a lot of action up and down the field, standing out for their quick defensive transitions in response to multiple counterattacks led by the Broncos. Sadly, their efforts were soon combated by another goal for Northgate after a minor lapse in communication in the Falcons’ back line. Another goal towards the end of the half secured the final score, and the Lady Falcons walked away with a 0-4 loss.
A long weekend and some well-deserved rest awaits the girls before their second week of league play. Next week they’re headed on the road where they will face the Campolindo Cougars on Tuesday, 1/20 and the Las Lomas Knights on Thursday, 1/22. Come out and show your support, Go Falcons!
