Varsity Season Highlights

Varsity Girls Water Polo - DAL CHAMPS!
The Varsity Girls Water Polo team finished the regular season with an 18-7 record after a resounding 8-5 victory over Clayton Valley in the League Championship Game on Oct 27th. This was the first league title for the CP Girls Water Polo team since 2009 and it helped erase the bad memory of losing to Clayton Valley last year in the Championship Game that went into double overtime.

This year, Lady Falcons got off to a fast start with Junior Captain Sammi Monroe scoring 3 goals in the first 4 minutes of the game. Clayton Valley fought back and closed the gap to a one goal difference but Junior Captain Caragh Osborne scored 2 goals to end the 3rd period and extinguish any hopes of a CV comeback.  The Falcons tenacious defense was the key to the game.  Caragh Osborne along with the fabulous Freshman Naomi Kardell, Angelina Del Bono and Sydney Maurer along with Sophomore Olivia Fife and Senior Captain Zoe MacDonald and her sister Lily denied CV of any good scoring opportunities.  Kelsey Meyers sealed the victory with her second goal of the game with just under a minute to go in the final period.  Sophomore Molly Ostrowski was stellar in goal keeping the defense organized and recording 7 saves and 2 steals.

Varsity Season Tournament Highlights

The Varsity Girls finished the regular season with a perfect a 5-0 record in league play and also had success in several tournaments.  At the Sierra Shootout in Rocklin, the Lady Falcons played in the Gold Division and cruised through the first 3 games with dominating wins over Bear Creek (16-4), Kimball (10-6) and Whitney (11-5). In the Championship Game vs Tokay, the girls ran up against a strong team and could not recover from a slow start falling behind 4-1 early in the game. Although the Falcons lost by a score of 10-7, the 2nd place finish was a big improvement over last year and it was a great opportunity for the girls to play teams outside of our league.  Sammi Monroe was selected to the All-Tournament team after scoring 23 goals, 9 assists, 19 steals and 12 exclusions drawn in the 4 games.

The Varsity Girls also took home 2nd Place at the Bronco Invitational at Northgate on Oct 20th.  The tournament started with a 9-3 win over Redwood.  Freshman Makayla Karst scored a goal in the 1st period to help the team get off to a quick 5-0 lead.  The defense was led by Sophomore Freya Williams, Junior Bella Giusti and Seniors Ana Lopez Ruiz and Lucy Blodgett.  Junior Bridget Webster had 6 saves in goal during the 2nd half of the game to help shut down Redwood.  In the second game, the Lady Falcons played the host team Northgate.  After a close first half (2-1 lead), the Lady Falcons scored 6 goals in the second half to close out an 8-2 victory.  Molly Ostrowski had 8 saves and 2 steals protecting the cage.   In the final game, the Lady Falcons fell behind 4-1 against Tamalpias and could never recover in a hard fought physical game.  Although the Falcons lost by a final score of 11-7, it did not reflect the strong effort and teamwork that the players exhibited during the tournament.
