The 2017-18 soccer season for the girls varsity team will be a very competitive season. This will be the teams 2nd year in division 1, battling against the best high school soccer teams. The first scrimmages went well and were both wins. 1-0 vs. YV and 6-1 vs. Concord. In our first game, we tied against our rivals, Clayton valley in an intense game with a lot of opportunities. The 2nd non league game vs. Heritage we suffered a 2-3 loss but gave a hard fight. Our 3rd game, we beat Hayward 3-1 with only 11 players and no subs. The team played hard against Freedom in our 4th non league game and ended up being scored on by a penalty kick in the last 10 minutes.

League games will officially begin in January and if the team is successful we will move on to NCS. We have high expectations for the rest of the season and hope it can be the most successful one so far. Last season, our first NCS game against Carondelet was a hard fought battle. They beat us 3-2 but graduated senior Gabby Tambazidis scored early in the first half and Jasmine Safarians scored a long shot from the 30 yard line. They were the overall top team in the division 1 bracket and we were the last seed but we tied them until they scored at the very end. This shows the tight bond between the team that allowed us to come together and put up a strong battle against the best team we had ever gone against. The CP girls varsity soccer team has a reputation as underdogs and will prove their talent in this next season!
