We came into the 33rd Stonebarger tournament at Liberty High School as the defending champions and planned on claiming that title again. We suffered a tough loss to a league opponent, Clayton Valley by 1 point in the championship in the Richard Burke Memorial tournament the weekend prior.

We felt we should have won the previous tournament so that just motivated us to go win the next one. Our first game was against Kennedy High from Fremont. We did not start out strong because we were playing down to there level. We picked it up towards the end and wound up winning by 40 points but we could have played a lot better.

The next game was against Foothill High School who we played in a scrimmage before the season and we beat them pretty badly. Coach Battle said this was the most important game of the tournament cause they’ll be coming back to get us. They came out hard and we found ourselves down 12 at halftime. We weren’t playing very hard and were taking bad shots. Coming out second half we just had to out work them and play as hard as we could. We had a good 4th quarter run and ended up winning by 4.

The championship game was against Campolindo, another league opponent. They have had a very good program the last couple of years and they are very well respected around the area. They came into the tournament undefeated so we really wanted to hand them their first loss of the season. We came out strong, hitting our shots and controlling the tempo of the game. We led by 8 going into halftime. Coach said we were going to win the game on defense so that was main focus of the second half. We played tough the second half and ended up winning by 10 to win the championship
